The airport controls: we are all suspects!

The idea to build a world without walls is not new, but in recent decades many people, especially those who care about education and school effectiveness have emphasized this utopian concept, perhaps motivated by the apparent disappearance of walls and interstate borders, at least in Europe.

However, barriers still exist, though not always tangible: the borders are disappearing physically, but in the minds of citizens (and the rulers, of course) are very present. When we think of the barriers listed in our minds only to prevent the passage, either to ourselves over the fence of a public work, for example, whether disabled people (who are finally getting the architecture and street furniture suit your needs), whether neighborhoods separated by fast roads or railway lines. But in the collective subconscious remain, despite everything, these invisible and intangible barriers that close our environment, immediate or not.

The idea of \u200b\u200ba united Europe remains a utopia, and the facts show us every day. For a citizen of the Kingdom of Spain, the French Republic is "another State", not a part of common European territory. In a few states have the feeling of sharing something with the neighbors: whether in Scandinavia or in the Benelux (Belgium despite the ideological and political barriers between Flanders and Wallonia is increasingly strong) ... In fact, the opposite is happening: Yugoslavia disintegrated violently and generated seven independent states (Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia , Slovenia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia). Something similar happened in the Soviet Union after the fall of the Berlin Wall, and Czechoslovakia emerged, by mutual agreement and peace
in two different states.

The paradox, then, is served. The pedestrian has no view on the advantages and disadvantages of this new reality: it simply lists the barriers, with all the respect you deserve the peoples separated by them (for many of which, the Baltic republics, for example-have been even beneficial).

But now, suddenly, something comes up undefined rather called "international terrorism." Interestingly, when one of the two major world powers away from the political map and cease to be, one has the impression that the other, also in crisis, but still strong, need to have a powerful enemy to show precisely that is a great world power (and for the arms business, among others, does not diminish, of course).

The Osama bin Laden is the face most
known of the "international terrorism
or, misleadingly," Islamic. "

The fact, historically speaking, there is nothing new. Since the dawn of humanity tribal clashes and wars between nations and neighboring states have been going unabated. Now, however, speak of an undefined enemy, rather diffuse despite appearances (remember that the information we receive is almost always manipulated), and not a people or state, and if we think we can conclude that the enemy so terrible, that big bad wolf can not be more than something designed to keep out the real enemy of any power: free and thinking people capable of bringing down walls towering if "something" does not stop their legitimate aspirations, and the passer, which is pretty ingrained the habit of reflecting on things, would think that the big solution is to consider all suspect biped, right or wrong dress.

terrorist attacks (assuming they actually were) they suffered in their own skin in September 2001, the United States hitherto untouched, and others that occurred later in various countries (including the atrocious massacre in March 2004, near Madrid's Atocha station) created a state of alarm world resulted in a very early obsessive security standards, a huge barrier that definitely became suspicious of all citizens and, moreover, would further fuel the xenophobia.

Airports are perhaps the best example of these "barriers" where passengers are often subjected to humiliation, if not in "custody" or forced repatriation. The tolerances are scarce, but according to all relevant variables used by each state.

The transient, moving frequently through airspace could explain dozens of anecdotes about situations in which it was found. Merely comment on some because, in his view, show the attitude of the police authorities of each State (protected, of course, by the instructions issued by their respective governments).

The most unpleasant recalls since the establishment of such controls occurred in the Scottish airport in Glasgow, where some little signs clearly visible before entering the "zone of control" and warned that any resistance, threats, verbal abuse and even anger apparent attitude could mean for his immediate arrest the passenger. It was clear to the police that that airport users should go through a series of humiliations, and assume the appropriateness of the resignation. Almost no one escaped the frayed voices of the soldiers, their nagging, his humiliating lessons on "how they should have ordered their belongings" in the hand luggage, which contained, in most cases was dispersed at the sight of all on large tables, thoroughly reviewed and then stacked in any way upon the exchange or the cabin suitcase, so that the annoying passengers, unable to express his indignation, to bother replacing it all in place. Any object "suspect" implied an interrogation, and if the passenger does not understand the language of the police, suffered a further humiliation. Pure military authoritarianism in a country, the UK, which aims to be distinguished by their good manners. Transient, without shoes (because they also had to remove your shoes), no belt (with the consequent risk of being suddenly in his underwear ... as it happened more than one passenger), with their belongings turns, and barely managed to get no help at long tables where people were trying to make a hole to get out of trouble.

Instead recalls her experience more pleasant, considering the circumstances. It was at the airport in Lisbon, where he attended the police apologized for the inconvenience and, with an affable smile, even helped him put the jacket.

At Rome's Fiumicino airport to the experience was fun and worthy of the best Italian topics. The passerby made a stopover there, traveling from Dubrovnik to Barcelona. Confident that should not happen any other control (the Croatian police had been correct, without incident), bought in the shop Airport Free Dalmatian a baroque rakija bottle, the characteristic brandy (plum, in if any) that occurs in Balkans. But here in the Roman airport itself to be passed back control of hand luggage, despite being in transit. The scanner, of course, found the bottle in the backpack of the bystander and a policeman young and friendly staff told to hand over the bottle. After a brief and friendly discussion, and seeing what it was, the officer made a gesture of complicity with the passer: "Ma via, Salvi bottiglia questa bella!" , and gave clues to do: leave the transit zone, as if it ends its journey in Rome, go to the counter of the company which was to fly to Barcelona and check that bag, "because nobody knows who also wears a checked bag from Dubrovnik, "he added, winking at the" victim "when she told him that was also carrying a suitcase in the hold. And so did the passer, but nothing prevents you from "saving" his rakija .

Transient still retains
now empty bottle of rakija
that "saved"
at Fiumicino airport.

Returning from a recent trip to Ireland, police control at Dublin Airport "discovered" on the monitor of the scanner that the transient had two umbrellas in your backpack, and made it open. Since the officer that the inspection found one umbrella, emptied completely, without finding the other case gimmick, belongings piled on top of the backpack and turned to go through the scanner. "All is in order , no problem!" , then said in a conciliatory tone, but twice opened the umbrella to make sure no deadly hide any material (or, rather, to mitigate their sense of ridicule). Then, however, carefully placed the appliances in the backpack, closed and the suspect fired a "Thank you very much " and a half smile.

never had transient problems in airports in other countries, but has always felt secure, "suspect", to pass any security check.

ethically acceptable Can we consider this type of caching?

build a world without barriers, feel free, at least in the territory of the call European Union (which is far from being the EU-citizens), is today only a wish. The enemy lurks, albeit made of cardboard, although it is incredible that this legendary character (can not you be perhaps in the direct sense of the word?) Who called Osama bin Laden has not been located and destroyed when the means the great world power has still surviving are able to find a needle in the big haystack of our planet. And we shut up and obey, which is one of the first slogans of mankind since the world began. We're mass minority silenced, powerless individuals, the agnus dei , unhappy mortals in the final analysis, and outcasts for a few with too much power.
